How to Make Cajun BBQ Beef Short Ribs

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds beef short ribs, bone-in

  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (preferably smoky or spicy)

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ribs

Pat the beef short ribs dry with paper towels. Rub them evenly with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let them sit at room temperature for 20 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  2. Sear the ribs

Heat olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ribs and sear on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove ribs and set aside.

  3. Cook the aromatics

In the same pot, add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

  4. Deglaze and simmer

Pour in beef broth, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.

  5. Braise the ribs

Return the ribs to the pot, cover, and reduce heat to low. Let the ribs braise gently for 3 to 3.5 hours, or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.

  6. Finish with glaze

Remove ribs from the pot and place on a baking sheet. Brush with additional BBQ sauce and broil for 3-5 minutes until the glaze caramelizes and becomes sticky.

  7. Serve

Plate the ribs with your favorite sides and spoon some of the braising liquid over the top for extra flavor.
